Maximising the Peninsula’s research and innovation assets
Driving impact for rural and coastal health
The region already has strong R&I capability across sectors and geographies.
We aim to leverage them by approaching them as collective assets. And secure external funding and investment to maximise value for the region.
This would be through:
- Improving population health
- Enhancing productivity of the health and care system
- Strengthening how we attract and retain our workforce
Through this collective approach, we can go further, faster. We can deliver more return on investment. We can combine a diversity of perspectives. And create the best conditions for innovation by avoiding silos and repetition.
This is an ambitious and exciting approach. It has the potential to reshape how research and innovation drives impact in the South West. And inform other rural and coastal communities, across the UK and beyond.
Areas of focus
We’re focusing on a small number of shared, major population health, care, and system challenges.
We’re taking a collaborative approach. This means working across-sectors to maximise the Peninsula’s research and innovation assets. And alongside communities to achieve impact greater than the sum of our parts. Aiming to deliver immediate impact through a pipeline of research and innovation projects. And develop a longer-term ‘Discovery’ phase portfolio for future years.
Our five areas of focus are:
Multiple Long-Term Conditions and Frailty
Improving the lives of people living who live with long term, multiple conditions and frailty
Mental Health
Promoting and enabling quality care for Mental Health and preventing ill health
Urgent Care
Immediate, compassionate and cost-effective urgent care
Cancer
Prevention, detection and treatment
Maternity, Neonatal
Addressing inequities in maternal and neonatal care
